15 Beautiful Dog Crate Dresser Designs: Dressers with Built-In Dog Beds

A dog crate dresser combines a traditional dresser, with its display shelving and generous storage, with a cosy bedroom for your dog built into the base. It gives your dog a calm, secure den of their own, right in the heart of family life, and gives you a beautiful piece of furniture that works as hard as the rest of your home.

At The Pet Carpenter, every dresser is handcrafted in our Devon workshop and designed around your pet, your room and the way you live. Many of our clients come to us looking for a dresser for pet owners that doesn’t compromise on style. That might be a kitchen dresser with a built-in dog bed, a home office desk with space for a dog to nap beside you, or a statement piece for three large breeds.

Below you’ll find fifteen of our favourite dog crate dresser designs, from compact single bedrooms to our largest dresser to date. We hope they inspire your own bespoke project. Ammonite painted dog crate dresser with solid oak worktop, sliding barred door to pet bedroom, handleless drawers and pull-out feeding drawer with two bowl holders

We designed this dresser for a dining room, bringing everything your dog needs into one balanced piece. Ammonite by Farrow and Ball pairs beautifully with the solid oak worktop and shelving. At its heart sits a cosy pet bedroom with a sliding barred door. On either side, handleless drawers keep the look clean and calm. In fact, one of them is a clever pull-out feeding drawer with two bowl holders. As a result, mealtimes stay tidy and the bowls tuck away after use. Above, two tall cupboards frame open oak shelves for tableware, dog essentials and favourite pieces.

2. Dog Crate Dresser with Drop Curtain in Hague Blue

Hague Blue dog crate dresser in a kitchen with Ammonite worktop, open display shelves, silver cup handle drawers, sliding barred door and grey check drop curtain, with a cocker spaniel resting inside

Rich Hague Blue by Farrow and Ball gives this kitchen dresser real presence. However, an Ammonite worktop and shelves soften the look. Above, three open shelves make a perfect home for cookbooks, plants and favourite pieces. Below, two drawers with silver cup handles sit over a cupboard and a bedroom for a much-loved cocker spaniel. A sliding door with silver bars keeps the bedroom open and airy. Then, at night, a soft check drop curtain rolls down for a darker, den-like feel. As a result, the spaniel can rest in the kitchen and still feel part of family life. You’ll also find this design in our cosy dog crate furniture collection.

Ammonite double dog crate dresser with solid oak worktop, black knob handles, four cupboards above, three drawers and two pet bedrooms with up and over doors and a removable barred divider

We made this generous kitchen dresser for two small to medium breed dogs. Soft Ammonite by Farrow and Ball sits alongside a solid oak worktop and black knob handles. The base holds two pet bedrooms with our signature up and over doors. During the day, these doors tuck neatly away above the openings. Between the bedrooms, a removable barred divider gives you a choice. For example, keep two separate spaces or open them into one shared den for a bonded pair. Finally, three drawers and four neat cupboards keep the kitchen beautifully organised.

4. Colour Matched Single Dog Crate Dresser in Deep Green

Single dog crate dresser in dark green with solid oak worktop, black bar handle drawer, double cupboards above and up and over door, with Miniature Australian Labradoodle puppy Casper sitting inside

Casper, a Miniature Australian Labradoodle puppy you’ll meet again at number 5, is modelling here. The bedroom suits medium to larger breeds, so there’s plenty of room to grow. Our signature up and over door slides neatly away above the opening when not in use. Above it, a wide drawer with a black bar handle holds leads and treats. Meanwhile, tall double cupboards offer concealed storage, with an open recess beneath for everyday essentials. It’s ideal for kitchens or dining rooms.

Our own Sirinya designed this piece for her Edinburgh home office before she joined the team. In fact, she told us, “I hated how much of an eyesore standard dog crates are.” Elephant’s Breath by Farrow and Ball pairs with a solid oak desktop and shelving. The design combines a full-width desk with a cosy bedroom for her Miniature Australian Labradoodle, Casper. Thanks to the sliding barred door, Casper can supervise his mum while she works. On the other side sits a pedestal of drawers and a cupboard. Above, tall handleless cupboards and open oak shelves hold files, books and favourite things. Read Sirinya and Casper’s full story here.

A single drawer with a silver bar handle sits beneath, while silver knobs on the cupboard doors match the client’s existing kitchen hardware. The base is left open as a welcoming dog bedroom with a fitted cushion, ideal for confident dogs who like to come and go freely and keep an eye on family life. Painted in a soft blush pink, colour matched to the client’s bespoke kitchen, it pairs a warm solid oak worktop with black knob handles. The base features two generous dog bedrooms with our signature up and over doors. A removable barred divider means the Labradors can have a space each or share one large den. Both are finished in Wine Dark by Farrow and Ball, a deep blue with a soft violet undertone, paired with solid oak worktops and black ironmongery. The smaller dresser features two drawers above a bedroom with a sliding barred door, topped with open oak shelving for display. Its taller companion offers a more generous bedroom for the larger dog, with tall double cupboards above for concealed storage. A showstopping dresser designed for every pet in the family: two cocker spaniels and four cats. The cats have a space of their own too. The right-hand cupboard in the dresser top has been transformed into a private cat cosy, with circular access holes so they can hop in from the open shelves and enjoy a quiet, elevated retreat away from the dogs. A matching cupboard on the left provides storage, while the base includes a twelve-bottle wine rack, three drawers and a further cupboard. Our dog Finn is modelling in the workshop.

12. Cat Litter Tray Cupboard with Dresser Top in Vert de Terre

Finished in Vert de Terre by Farrow and Ball with a whitewashed oak worktop and shelving and black knob handles, it also includes a handy drawer for litter bags and cat essentials. Above, the dresser top becomes a tidy bookshelf with space for plants and favourite things, and a perfect perch for the family’s beautiful pedigree cat. A practical, beautiful answer to the litter tray that cat owners will love.

Finished in deep Down Pipe by Farrow and Ball with a warm solid oak worktop and silver knob handles, it brings a sophisticated, grounded feel to the room. The pet bedroom features our signature up and over door, which tucks neatly away when your dog wants to come and go. Beside it, a double cupboard and three drawers offer everyday storage. Finished in light Ammonite by Farrow and Ball with a solid oak worktop and black bar handles, it feels fresh, bright and classic. The pet bedroom suits a small to medium breed and features our signature up and over door. A double cupboard and three drawers provide plenty of everyday storage. Our largest dresser to date, and a true statement piece, made for three large to extra large breed dogs. Finished in Breakfast Room Green by Farrow and Ball with a solid oak worktop and black ironmongery, it stretches across three generous sections. Each has its own spacious bedroom with a sliding barred door, so every dog has a calm, secure den of their own. Six drawers run along the base for leads, toys and household essentials. Above, two sets of tall double cupboards frame a central run of open oak shelving, giving a beautiful balance of concealed storage and display. Built in sections for easy delivery and fitting, it shows just how far a bespoke dresser can go when it’s designed around the whole family, dogs included.

Why Choose a Dog Crate Dresser?

A dresser is one of the most versatile pieces of furniture in the home, and adding a pet bedroom to the base makes it even more useful. It gives your dog a dedicated safe space in the rooms where family life actually happens, usually the kitchen, dining room or home office, so they can rest without feeling shut away.

A dog crate dresser also solves the problem many owners face with a standard metal crate: it takes up valuable floor space and rarely suits the room. By building the bedroom into a piece of furniture, you gain storage and display space instead of losing it. Drawers keep leads, treats and grooming kit tidy, cupboards hide everyday clutter, and open shelving brings personality to the room.

A calm, enclosed den supports your dog’s natural instinct to retreat somewhere secure, which can help them settle and rest. If your dog is new to crate training, our guide to introducing your dog to their new bedroom crate explains how to make it a positive space from day one.

Planning Your Bespoke Design

Every dresser we make starts with your dog and your room. These are the main choices to think about before you begin.

Size. Your dog should be able to stand, turn around comfortably and stretch out fully. For extra large breeds, a bedroom like the one in design 7 (part of a dresser measuring 1400mm wide by 900mm deep) gives plenty of room. Our pet furniture size guide will help you measure, and our team will check everything with you.

Door style. Choose from our signature up and over doors, which tuck away above the opening, sliding barred doors, open bedrooms with no door at all, or soft drop curtains for a darker, den-like feel at night.

Number of pets. Doubles and triples can include removable barred dividers, so dogs can have a space each or share one large den. Cat cosies and litter tray cupboards can be built in too.

Storage and display. Mix drawers, cupboards, glass-fronted display cabinets, open shelves, wine racks and feeding drawers to suit how you’ll use the room.

Finish. We paint in Farrow and Ball shades or colour match to your kitchen, and offer solid oak, whitewashed or painted worktops with a choice of ironmongery. Fitted designs can be cut out to sit over skirting boards for a seamless built-in look.

FAQs on Dog Crate Dressers

What is a dog crate dresser?

A dog crate dresser is a piece of furniture that combines a traditional dresser, with shelving, cupboards and drawers, with a built-in bedroom for your dog in the base. It replaces a standalone metal crate with a beautiful, practical piece designed for your home.

Can a dog crate be built into a dresser?

Yes. Every dresser we make is designed with the pet bedroom built in from the start, sized to your dog’s breed and finished to match your room. Choose an up and over door, a sliding barred door, an open bedroom or a drop curtain.

What size dog crate dresser do I need for a large breed?

Your dog should be able to stand, turn and stretch out comfortably. As a guide, our XL dresser for extra large breeds measures 1400mm wide, 900mm deep and 2250mm tall. Our size guide and design team will help you get it right.

Is a dog crate dresser the same as a dog cage dresser?

Yes, the terms are often used interchangeably. We prefer to call it a pet bedroom, as our designs are made to feel like a cosy den rather than a cage.

Can a dresser include space for two or three dogs?

Absolutely. Our double and triple dressers can include removable barred dividers, so dogs can have their own space or share one large den.

Can my dresser be colour matched to my kitchen?

Yes. We paint in Farrow and Ball colours or colour match to your existing kitchen, and can match ironmongery and worktops too. Fitted designs can sit flush over skirting boards.
